Why did you start blogging?
I love to write. I have kept journals my whole life and transitioned into blogging while I was in grad school for Organizational and Strategic Communications, both as part of my required assignments and because I enjoyed the personal outlet it provided. I really like connecting with others through writing and blogging provides the perfect opportunity to do so.
If you aren’t a hairstylist, why do you write about hair?
While I am not a beauty professional, I have had hair my whole life 😉 And, much of the time, my hair has challenged me. There have been several “awkward phases”. Through trial and error, I have figured out how to handle my hair and what products make it look best, but I have wasted SO much time and money doing buying the wrong things. I’d love to use my experience – and the insight of friends and fellow hair product junkies to empower others to know what to buy and what will work best for their hair.
How do you choose what products to review?
There is no science to it. Sometimes I grab what is on sale at Walgreens, just to see if I like it (and because I love a sale); and sometimes I buy something after having read about or hearing someone talk about what products they use.
What do you do with the products you don’t like?
There is a product graveyard under my guest bathroom sink. If I can return a product, I will, but otherwise, it collects dust among the many who have gone before it.
However, I do like to repurpose conditioner for shaving cream.
What are your favorite products?
Check out my best tressed list and the “favorites” menu.
Where do you shop for hair products?
Anywhere. Everywhere…. Amazon, Ulta, Sephora, CVS, my salon, Whole Foods… really, anywhere they are sold, I find myself making a purchase.
Do you lather, rinse and repeat?
I may be the only one, but yes, I follow the instructions on the shampoo bottle and lather TWICE each wash. I do this mainly because I only wash my hair twice a week and oil and products build up easily on my off days.
What is your natural hair color?
My natural color is medium brown, but these days (for the past 9 years) I have some variation of blonde hair. In my teenage and early adult years, I was known for switching up my color all of the time; and I have explored pretty much the whole hair color spectrum, including purple and a very bright orange- not purposely.
Why do you have guest bloggers?
I only have one kind of hair…and my hair experience doesn’t represent the challenges that all of my readers face. I want my blog to offer a diverse range of expertise coming from people who have all kinds of hair types and dilemmas.
Can I be a guest blogger?
We are always in the market for guest bloggers. Please contact me for info on how you can be our next good hair day girl.
What is your “real job”?
Unfortunately, blogging isn’t paying the bills just yet, so I do have a full time job working in Corporate Communications for a large corporation, where I do write, but not about hair.
Did you ever consider of being a hairdresser?
Yes. And, I still love the idea of making other people feel beautiful. It just seems really rewarding- and enjoyable. And, it would further enable my addiction to beauty products…which is precisely why I should NOT do it.
Where do you live?
I live in Charlotte, North Carolina. I was born, raised and went to college in Pittsburgh, but moved here in 2005 when I was desperately in need of a change of scenery- and shorter winters. I feel blessed to be able to call both places “home”.
